Huang Shan Mao Feng is a famous Chinese green tea from Anhui province. The tea comes from the area around Huang Shan, the Yellow Mountains, a region known for its impressive mountain landscape and long tea tradition.
With its fine leaves, fresh character and soft, slightly sweet taste, Huang Shan Mao Feng is a wonderful introduction to classic Chinese green tea.
What is Huang Shan Mao Feng?
Huang Shan Mao Feng is a green tea from Anhui in China. The name refers to the Huang Shan region and to the appearance of the young tea leaves.
Young shoots are carefully picked to produce high-quality Huang Shan Mao Feng. In the dry tea, you will often see a young bud with one or two fine leaves. The leaves have an elongated, pointed shape and retain a naturally green character after processing.
A famous Chinese green tea
Huang Shan Mao Feng is often regarded as one of China's best-known traditional teas. The tea is closely associated with the mountainous area around Huang Shan, where tea has been cultivated for a long time.
This makes Huang Shan Mao Feng interesting for anyone who wants to discover the classic styles of Chinese green tea alongside well-known Japanese green teas such as Sencha.
What does Huang Shan Mao Feng taste like?
Our Huang Shan Mao Feng Premium produces a light, clear infusion with a fresh and floral aroma.
The taste is soft and balanced, developing a pleasant natural sweetness. Subtle fruity nuances may also emerge, reminiscent of apricot and peach.
It is precisely this combination of freshness, soft floral notes and gentle sweetness that makes Huang Shan Mao Feng very different from more powerful or heavily roasted green teas.
Chinese and Japanese green tea
Anyone familiar mainly with Japanese green tea will discover a different character in Huang Shan Mao Feng. Japanese green tea is generally heated with steam to stop oxidation, while many traditional Chinese green teas are processed in a heated pan or drum.
These different processing methods contribute to the differences in aroma and taste. While Japanese green tea often has pronounced vegetal and umami notes, a Chinese green tea such as Huang Shan Mao Feng can reveal softer, floral and slightly sweet nuances.
How do you brew Huang Shan Mao Feng?
Green tea does not need to be brewed with boiling water. As a starting point, we recommend approximately 14 grams of tea per litre of water for our Huang Shan Mao Feng Premium.
Use water at approximately 70–80 °C and let the tea steep for about 1.5 to 2 minutes.
You can use the leaves several times. With subsequent infusions, you can adjust the steeping time and discover how the flavour profile continues to develop.
